MILLISEDE – the centipede among curved benches

The winding MILLISEDE bench is a steam-bent backless bench designed for free-form shapes. It can be produced efficiently without recurring radii, while its organic form gives it a distinctly dynamic aesthetic. This unique, freely curved wooden bench winds through parks and gardens or across public squares.

This winding bench made of solid wood stands out with its imaginative design, delighting not only children but people of all ages. The parametric design of the bench allows us to customise the curve according to the client’s needs and preferences. We can also adjust the geometry of the individual bentwood slats to suit the chosen wood type and aesthetics by varying the bending radius and the rounding of the slat ends. This makes it possible to freely select the seat depth.

Despite all this freedom and room for individuality, the MILLISEDE can still be produced efficiently. Constructed from identical, relatively short bentwood slats, this special bench ensures optimum utilisation of wood and thereby contributes to the sustainable management of natural resources.

Various materials
and colours

We recommend durable oak for outdoor areas. If the MILLISEDE is protected, such as under a roof or indoors, we can use a hardwood type of your choice. For efficient production and optimum wood utilisation, we recommend that the slats of the MILLISEDE bench are approximately 55–65 mm thick at the thickest point (curved dimension). The slats are mounted on three parallel, laser-cut steel straps.

In addition to the characteristic ‘centipede legs’, a variety of other leg designs are also possible. We can manufacture the metal parts in steel or stainless steel and, on request, powder-coat them in the client’s desired colour or galvanise them.
